Meeting of May 18 2006

A few of us attended a meeting last week to discuss our neighborhood's emergency preparedness. We came away with a few goals:

  1. Help raise neighborhood awareness of emergency preparedness (it rhymes!)

    1. Coordinate a public meeting with the fire department

    2. Order and distribute copies of this handbook, published by the WA Dept of Health and WA State Military Dept.

  2. Establish a communication approach in emergencies

  3. Encourage Search and Rescue training withinin the neighborhood via CERT

This is just a start, but a good one. Please use the comment space to update or add info regarding this meeting

Nancy talked with melanie granfors with shoreline fire dept, who said they stopped doing presentations during summer cause they don’t get a good showing. She would nevertheless be willing to talk to our neighborhood group if we still wanted to hold it in the summer. What’s everyone’s feedback. I thought we might try June and have it be an outdoor meeting so people driving by could see it- I’d get the chairs from our church. Any input?

(this was an email from Dave G. I posted it here to as a model for how to use the site)

I'd like to make sure we have enough time to get the handbooks and promote the meeting. June might be pushing it...

Otherwise, I say yes. This seems like a good plan.

I've ordered 10 handbooks, as there are only 100 or so left at the DofH. They plan an update to be available by September or so.
